With the green-screen effect in iMovie, you can superimpose a video clip over a background video clip, photo, or other image. First, record your subject in front of a green or blue screen. Next, add that clip above the background clip in the iMovie timeline. Then, use the green-screen effect in iMovie so the background clip is visible behind your subject.

Record video in front of a green or blue screen

Record video with your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or another camera in front of a green or blue screen. If the subject of your video is green or is wearing green, record in front of a blue background. If the subject of your video is blue or is wearing blue, record in front of a green background.

Use the green-screen effect in iMovie on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

1. With your project open, add the background video clip or still image to the timeline.
2. Scroll the timeline so that the playhead (the white vertical line) appears over the background clip.
3. Tap the Add Media button , tap a category from the list, then tap the green-screen clip to select it.
4. Tap the More button , then tap Green/Blue Screen. The green-screen clip is added to the timeline above the background clip.
5. In the viewer, tap Auto to automatically remove the green or blue from the clip. Or tap the color in the clip in the viewer to remove that color.
6. Trim and move the background video clip to match the length of your green-screen clip. Because the clips are connected, the two clips move together when you rearrange clips in the timeline.
   

Adjust the green screen effect on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

After you've added the green-screen effect, you can make adjustments. Tap the green-screen clip you want to adjust in the timeline, then use any of the green-screen controls to make adjustments:

• To change the amount of green or blue removed from a green-screen clip, tap the Adjust button, then drag the Strength slider left or right.
• To crop parts of a green-screen clip, tap the Mask button, then drag the corners.

Use the green-screen effect in iMovie on Mac

1. With your project open, add the background video clip or still image to the timeline.
2. Add the green-screen clip above the background clip in the timeline.
3. Trim and move the background video clip to match the length of your green-screen clip. Because the clips are connected, the two clips move together when you rearrange clips in the timeline.
4. If the video overlay controls aren't shown, click the Video Overlay Settings button above the viewer, then choose Green/Blue Screen from the pop-up menu.
   In the viewer, iMovie removes the green or blue from the green-screen clip to reveal the background clip behind your subject. Because the clips are connected, the two clips move together if you rearrange clips in the timeline.

The color that iMovie removes is based on the dominant color in the frame at the position of the playhead when you choose Green/Blue Screen from the pop-up menu. If the frame below the playhead isn't representative of the rest of the clip, reposition the playhead and reapply the effect.

Adjust the green screen effect on Mac

After you've added the green-screen affect, you can make adjustments. Select the green-screen clip in the timeline, click the Video Overlay Settings button , then use any of the green-screen controls to make adjustments.

• To adjust the transition between the green-screen clip, drag the Softness control.
• To isolate areas of the green-screen clip, click the Crop button , then drag the corners of the frame in the viewer.
• To mask parts of the green-screen clip, click the Clean-Up button , then drag across the clip in the viewer.

iMovie User Guide

A transition affects how clips look when one clip changes to the next. By default, iMovie inserts a transition between every video clip and photo in your project.

You can change individual transitions so that they have different visual effects, and you can also adjust the duration of a transition, up to a maximum of 2 seconds (provided that the surrounding clips are longer than 2 seconds).

Modify a transition

1. With your project open, tap the icon in the timeline for the transition you want to change.

2. In the inspector at the bottom of the screen, tap to select one of the following transitions:

   • None : Cuts from one clip to another with no effects.

   • Theme : Uses custom effects from the movie theme you're using.

   • Cross-dissolve : One clip dissolves into another. All notes com. If this option isn't available, it means the clips on either side of the transition aren't long enough to create a cross-dissolve.

   • Slide : One clip slides into another in the direction you pick. Choose left-to-right, right-to-left, bottom-to-top, or top-to-bottom. Sims 4 all expansion packs free 2019.

   • Wipe : A line wipes one clip into another in the direction you pick. Choose left-to-right, right-to-left, bottom-to-top, or top-to-bottom.

   • Fade through black or fade through white : Choose a black or white fade from one clip to another.

   The icon changes to indicate the type of transition you selected.

3. To change how long the transition lasts, tap the duration shown, then tap another duration.

   The available durations are determined by the lengths of the clips on either side of the transition, up to a maximum of 2 seconds. The cut transition () has no duration.

4. Tap outside the inspector to close it.

Add a sound effect to a transition

Each transition style in iMovie comes with a Hollywood-style sound effect to enhance what you see. You can turn the sound effect on or off for each individual transition.

1. With your project open, tap the icon in the timeline for the transition you want to change.

2. In the inspector at the bottom of the screen, tap the Mute button to turn the sound effect on or off (by default, it's off).

3. To preview the sound effect, scroll the timeline to position the playhead before the transition, and tap the Play button in the viewer.

4. Tap outside the inspector to close it.

Remove a transition

To remove a transition from your project, you simply change it to None, so that one clip 'cuts' directly to the next without additional visual effects.

Add a fade-in or fade-out

You can give your project professional polish by setting it to fade in from black at the beginning or fade out to black at the end.

1. With your project open, tap the Project Settings button .

2. Tap to turn on 'Fade in from black' or 'Fade out to black.' Cricut for pc.

   When you add a fade-in or fade-out effect, a fade-in icon (shown below, on the left) or fade-out icon (shown below, on the right) appears in the first or last clip in your project in the timeline.

3. Tap outside the project settings to close them.
